TRAINING

Training is an essential investment for any company as it will improve the performance of employees and increase profitability; customers need the assurance that they are dealing with knowledgeable personnel.

Training is the systematic process by which people learn to be more effective within their role. It increases employee confidence, maintains morale and enthusiasm, stimulates loyalty and provides a more flexible and capable organisation as a result of a greater range of skills.

The Environmental Protection Group has, within the past few years, built a credible reputation for the delivery of SUDS and Contaminated Land related training. Our training ability has presented an opportunity to provide training services for a wide range of clients including product manufacturers, product suppliers, builders merchants, The Environment Agency and wildlife trusts; training undertaken for a manufacturer of drainage products provided their in-house technical team with the confidence required to offer a free stormwater management design service to their clients.

Currently we are involved in delivering a series of comprehensive SUDS training courses organised by Sustainable Drainage Associates and CIRIA and in conjunction a series of training courses organised by the Chartered Institution of Environmental Health on the management of landfill gas.

REASEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Research and development plays an important role in a company's strategic development. It provides the platform for maintaining a competitive advantage, it helps to bring new ideas to commercial fruition and also aids with the development of existing products and gaining acceptance in the market place

Integrating our expertise in the Contaminated Land and SUDS sectors provides a unique opportunity to assist clients develop a variety of technologies for use within these industries. As one of the leaders in the structural design of plastic geocellular stormwater tanks we are responsible for the development of the most commonly used standard test protocol and design philosophy.

Examples of completed R and D projects:

•  Assisting a UK academic institute in the development, patenting and commercial exploitation of a new pollution control device for use within a sustainable drainage system.

•  Computational fluid dynamic analysis of gas venting components to develop design parameters.

•  Development of design methodology for a vibro inserted passive vented in-ground gas barrier; including numerical modelling of the system.

•  Provide computational fluid dynamic and numerical analysis of silt deposition in plastic cellular tanks and assist in developing proven methods that will prevent silt from reducing the system performance.

•  Developing a design methodology that allows the benefits of green roof technology to be incorporated into a SUDS design.

The extensive knowledge and experience available within The Environmental Protection Group contributed to the company obtaining the status of research contractor and individual authors of the following CIRIA projects:

•  Source control using constructed pervious surfaces - CIRIA Report C582

•  SUDS, hydraulic , water quality and structural advice - CIRIA Report C609

As active participants in industry research some of our team members are also enrolled on the steering committee of certain CIRIA projects
